The Secret School

By Avi

Ida Bidson wants to become a teacher, but she must finish 8th grade, then go to high school in Steam Boat Springs. One problem: her teacher Ms. Fletcher has to go back east to care for her sick mother. Tom, Ida’s best friend, has an idea—Ida can teach.  Will Ida’s work stay a secret? Will Ida be able to handle it? Will she pass the graduation test?

This is a really good book. Avi does a really good job describing Ida’s feelings. You basically feel what she does. I liked Ida because she does not give up, no matter what challenge she faces.

If this intrigues you, read the book.
